3 Things To Do To Get Rid Of Your Junk Car

Posted on

If you have a car that you don't consider usable anymore and don't plan on driving, you have a junk car. A junk car is one you can't use for transportation anymore and that isn't bringing you any value.

Luckily, a junk vehicle can hold value to an auto wrecking yard, where they take junk cars and figure out if any of the parts hold any value. They then resell these parts and recycle the rest of the vehicle. If you have a junk car you want to get rid of, there are some things you are going to need to do.

Get the Paperwork Together

Even if your vehicle is no longer drivable, you will still need the proper paperwork to sell your vehicle. You are going to need your vehicle's registration and the title to your vehicle. This paperwork will allow you to legally transfer ownership of the vehicle over to the auto salvage company you are selling it to. Without this paperwork, you could still be held legally responsible for anything that happens with or to the vehicle, so be sure to have this paperwork together before you attempt to sell your junk vehicle.

You are also going to want to print out a bill of sales. A bill of sales isn't required in most states to sell a vehicle; however, it is an easy way to protect yourself when you are selling your junk vehicle legally. In the bill of sales, be sure that it states that you are selling your vehicle as-is. With a junk vehicle that doesn't run, you don't want there to be any questions about the condition of the car or your obligation to fix it up.

Remove Your Stuff

Even if your car isn't drivable anymore, you may still have stuff in your car that you need to remove. Once you sell the car to the auto salvage yard, the vehicle and everything inside it is technically theirs. That is why before selling the vehicle, you should take some time to go through the vehicle and remove all your personal belongings.

Be sure to remove everything from the trunk, glove box, and any other small compartments. If you have seat or wheel covers on the vehicle and want to keep them, remove them before presenting the car to the buyer.

Arrange for Transportation

If you are selling a true junk car that you can't even drive down the road, you will want to arrange for the transportation of the vehicle. Many places that purchase junk cars for cash have their own tow truck or contract with a towing company to pick up the vehicles that they are buying.

If you have a junk car you don't need anymore, get the paperwork together, remove your stuff, and arrange for transportation so you can get rid of a vehicle that doesn't serve a purpose anymore and get a little cash in your pocket.
