Lengthen The Life Of Your Tires: What You Can Do

Posted on

The tires on your vehicle are only meant to last for so long. They are usually given a mileage for how long they should last, but they may not last this long. To help lengthen their life and get as much use out of them as possible, there are a few things you can do. Tires aren't cheap, so if you can get even more use and time out of them, it's important that you do so. Read on for a few helpful tips to lengthen the life of your tires.

Keep Them Aired Up

Make sure you aren't driving your car with tires that are flat or low on air. You should check the tires for how many pounds of air they have. Use a guide to see how much air should be in your tires. Your tires themselves should also have this information on them. Use a tire gauge to tell you how many pounds of air are in your tires. If your tires are low, add more air until they are full. Changes in outside temperatures can change the air in your tires, so keep an eye on your tires as the temperature outside drops.

Get Your Tires Rotated

Make sure you get your tires rotated with every other oil change, so about twice per year. Rotating your tires can help get an even amount of wear out of your tires. If your tires are beginning to wear on the outside, for instance, rotating them can help even out the wear and wear out the other side of them as well so you don't end up with lopsided tires. When you have your tires rotated, make sure they also balance the tires as well, which means they are also checking the air inside and making them all even.

Watch For Damage

Make sure you keep an eye out for damage to your tires. Additionally, don't drive on your tires if you notice any damage. Damage such as a nail, screw, or other protrusion in the tire can end up causing your tires to go flat if you aren't careful. Have the object removed and the tire repaired and sealed to prevent any air loss or further tire damage.

Tires can be expensive to replace, so take good care of the ones you have. Use the tips above to lengthen the life of your tires. If you are in need of new tires, get to a tire dealer and have new tires put on your vehicle. Contact a tire service for more information.
